About the Department
The Legal Department at WCL Headquarters is a key functional unit responsible for safeguarding the Company’s legal interests across all operational domains. It manages litigation relating to land matters, service issues, commercial disputes, and environmental compliances, ensuring that the Company’s actions remain firmly within the framework of applicable laws and judicial directives. The Department also provides critical legal support to business operations through vetting of Memoranda of Understanding, tender documents, contracts, and show-cause notices, and by offering timely legal opinions. By facilitating lawful and transparent decision-making and coordinating effectively with Areas and panel advocates, the Legal Department enables smooth operational functioning and mitigates legal risks for the Organization. Apart from the above activities Legal Department is keen in spreading Legal awaremess through lectures, workshop and publications.

Name :Sreeram R Designation :GM(Legal) performing duties as HOD (Legal) since May ’23 Education : B Sc, LL.M.(Constitutional and Administrative Laws) Extensively practiced before Lower Courts and High Court of Kerala before joining Coal India Limited as Manager (Legal) in year 2011. Was posted in CIL Headquarters till May, 2023, thereafter joined WCL. During the tenure at WCL has published two editions of Legal Journal namely “Vidhikiran”. For the first time software for litigation management was introduced during his tenure. The litigation information system under the name “Vidhishakti” is being introduced which is first of its kind throughout Coal India Limited. Online case search was introduced. A Legal Library with reputed commentaries has been built in Legal Department which becomes strong source for reference.
